I’ve always hated the dropping sensation that comes with scary rollercoasters. I know some people find it thrilling, but it totally freaks me out. I feel like I can’t breathe, as I cling to the closest thing to me – whether that be a handle or the unfortunate arm of a loved one.
There are times when God calls us into a free-fall. He calls us to step out of where we have become comfortable and step into the dark – into the unknown. It can be terrifying.
Just like with rollercoasters, we tend to grab onto whatever we can when God’s asking us to jump. We’ll grab onto the past, onto insecurity and onto pride, believing that what we had is better than where we’re going, that we’re not capable of what we’re called into and that we could get around just fine on our own without taking the leap. All of these things are detrimental to our obedience and growth.
You know what I think God wants us to do when He asks us to free-fall? I believe He wants us to run to the cliffs of our faith and jump with peace – no hesitation.
Peace in the free-fall comes by complete courage to jump. If we really trust and believe that He’s holding us and that He wouldn’t ask us to go where He isn’t already, we have no reason to slow down on our way toward the drop-off. He’s calling us to jump without calculating the risk. He’s asking us to step into the big and scary while being completely at peace and at rest in Him.
Don’t let the dark scare you or the heights persuade you – sprint to the edge and free-fall.
There’s no dark place that God will not make light or height that He’s not already prepared for. If He’s called you to jump there, He will catch you from there. Peace will cover you as you stop looking for a way to save yourself.
Stop clinging for comfort, friend. Trust the One that lives in you – that surrounds you with protection always. Don’t stop to look down – keep running. Expect Him to come through for you, because He will. He will meet you at the bottom of your faith and prove to you that He has you, time and time again.
Peace will find you as you leave your hesitations behind you. Just free-fall and enjoy the ride. He’s got you!
“I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too – your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful – I can’t take it all in! Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? To be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I do go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, you’d find me in a minute – you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, ‘Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!’ It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.” -Psalm 139:5-12 (MSG)
