And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” -Mark 14:37-38 [ESV]
Have you ever felt overcome by life’s demands? More often than not, I’ve found myself wrapped up in everything that’s coming at me-trying to make sure everyone is happy. Yet, every time I get worked up about my current circumstances, I hear the Holy Spirit whisper to my heart “In heavenly perspective, this doesn’t matter”.
I know I’m not alone in this here. We sometimes can only see what’s right in front of us and can only rest when all of our ducks are in a row. I feel that The Lord wants us to remember something really important: He’s coming.
He’s coming in a moment when we least expect it-a moment when many of us will be caught off guard or “sleeping”. However, He has called us to stay awake-to take our eyes off of our current circumstances and be ready for Him.
Recently, I have had to consciously realign my focus toward heaven-toward Jesus-as I have felt like I’m drowning in school, household duties, friendships and so on. I’ve had to stop working, stop striving and just sit in His presence. With deadlines due and dishes in the sink, I’ve had to make the time to fix my eyes on the One who holds it all-the One who’s coming soon to take me away with Him.
What about you? Are you sleeping? I know how crazy this life can be, but keep focused. Stay awake.
“Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—” -Mark 13:35 [ESV]
